Frequently asked

Who needs GCAA 4.1.B training?
Personnel preparing dangerous goods consignments for transport, with classification covered at the same time. In practice: shippers and packers, operator staff acting as shippers, operator staff preparing dangerous goods as company materials (COMAT), and freight forwarder staff acting on behalf of the shipper.
How long is the 4.1.B course?
Initial training runs 3 days for classifying dangerous goods. Preparing dangerous goods shipments is also 3 days, and includes classifying dangerous goods. Learners will be able to classify a substance or article correctly, then select the right packing instruction, marking, labelling and documentation for it, which is the most technically demanding function in the 4.1 range.
What is the difference between 4.1.B and 4.1.D?
4.1.B is the shipper side: preparing and classifying consignments before they are offered. 4.1.D is the acceptance side: checking and processing consignments presented by a shipper. A freight forwarder acting on behalf of a shipper needs 4.1.B; a cargo terminal accepting the shipment needs 4.1.D.
Does the course cover COMAT shipments?
Yes. Operator staff preparing dangerous goods as company materials are named in the function description for this category. COMAT is a frequent source of findings because internal shipments sometimes bypass the checks applied to commercial cargo, so the course treats it as a shipper obligation like any other.
Does 4.1.B cover sea freight as well as air?
No. All the GCAA and IATA course codes relate to the air transport of dangerous goods only. For sea freight, the training is under the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG). IMDG is a separate regime for ocean shipping. If your team ships by both modes, tell DGR Aviation at the enquiry stage for a separate IMDG training.
What will I be able to do after the course?
Apply the regulations and guidelines governing dangerous goods transport by air, prepare and classify consignments correctly, and reduce the risk of a shipment being rejected at acceptance or of an incident in transit.
Who carries the responsibility if a shipment is wrongly classified?
The shipper carries the primary duty to classify, identify, pack, mark, label and document the consignment correctly, and signs the Shipper’s Declaration to that effect. That is why this category exists as a separate certification from acceptance training.
How do I enrol in the 4.1.B course?
Complete the enquiry form on the course page, or contact DGR Aviation on +971 4 267 6745 or +971 56 534 9234, or at info@dgraviation.com, to confirm the next available dates.
How long is the 4.1.B certificate valid?
Two years. Recurrent training must be completed before the certificate expires to maintain the function without a gap. We record the expiry at the time of certification and flag the renewal window ahead of time.
Can 4.1.B be delivered at our facility?
Yes. This function is regularly delivered on-site across the UAE, on your shift pattern and using your own documentation as the worked examples. The approval, assessment and certificate are identical to the classroom course.
What is the pass mark?
80% for a pass and 90% for a distinction, assessed on Knowledge, Skills and Attitude by the training provider. Where applicable, an employer assessment should be completed within 12 months.
